Code of Conduct

Effective Date: January 23, 2025

Purpose: The Nelson Baseball Association (NBA) developed this Code of Conduct to demonstrate the requirements of parents/guardians in understanding that how they conduct themselves directly affects our ability to provide a positive experience for the children participating in our programming.

Similarly, the NBA requires its players to follow the highest standards of sportspersonship and respect at all times during practices, games, and all associated baseball activities on and off the diamond.
Any violations could result in the NBA asking individuals to leave the ballpark. Repeat violations could also result in further disciplinary actions as determined by the NBA. Prior to attending any NBA event, please visit our publicly posted policies, practices, and procedures at nelsonbaseball.ca

Player, Coach, Parent/Guardian and Spectator Expected Behaviour

  • Players, managers, or coaches engaging or persisting in conduct or actions unfavourable to the spirit, principles and objectives of good sportspersonship may, if the umpire deems it appropriate, receive one warning from the umpire. If the offence or offences continue, an offender or offenders will be removed from the game.
  • Parents/guardians and spectators attending are expected to model appropriate behaviour for the youth players competing on the field. When conflict situations occur, parents/guardians and spectators are expected to resolve the conflict appropriately. Players, coaches, and umpires have the right to participate in the game without being subjected to abuse or distractions from outside the playing field.
  • Examples of unacceptable behaviour include but are not limited to disrespecting umpires, opposing players, coaches, parents/guardians, and league administrators. This includes taunting, insulting language, angry outbursts, gestures, and physical aggression. Coaches are expected to make their best efforts to ensure these expectations are met by their parents/guardians and supporters. Any parent/guardian or spectator who fails to meet these expectations may be asked to leave the area surrounding the field by the coach and/or the umpire(s).
  • The umpire may speak directly to the individual being asked to leave or may choose to have the appropriate coach communicate this decision to the parent.
  • If a parent/guardian or spectator refuses to leave the area surrounding the field, the umpire may suspend the game without making any judgment as to the final score, which the NBA will determine. Any member of the NBA Board of Directors may also request that a parent/guardian or spectator leave the area surrounding the field of play.
  • The NBA shall review reports submitted in writing regarding unacceptable behavior and may contact the affected member associations as deemed appropriate and/or issue discipline as warranted.

Policy Changes: The NBA reserves the right to modify this Code of Conduct at any time. Changes will be communicated to participants via email, updated on our website or revised within next season's registration process.
